En este curso se estudiará cierta caracterización que se otorga durante siglos a la mujer diferente, que se sale del cauce de lo ortodoxo o normalizado por la sociedad. La mujer “histérica” del siglo XIX tiene su precedente en la mujer visionaria y bruja de la Edad Media y temprana Edad Moderna, como supo plantear muy tempranamente, en 1922, la película muda danesa Häxan, dirigida por Benjamin Christensen, que se comentará durante el curso.
Se analizará entonces la delgada línea que separa la santidad de la acusación de brujería, así como las diversas clasificaciones de las mujeres extraordinarias, cuya autoridad en un plano o en otro (pero especialmente en el político y espiritual) despertó suspicacias y en algunos casos severos castigos o sometimiento a juicios por parte de la élite masculina. Así, las mujeres diferentes podrán pasar de ser vigiladas por el estamento eclesiástico a ser controladas por el médico o psiquiátrico en la época contemporánea.
El curso se dividirá en dos partes, siguiendo la propuesta de la película danesa: abordará primero la situación de la mujer entre los siglos XV-XVII y en una segunda parte, mirará hacia la mujer en la época contemporánea, en los siglos XIX-XXI, para entender un fenómeno que ha sufrido reescrituras a lo largo de los tiempos.
El enfoque del curso será interdisciplinar: palabra o imagen cinematográfica nos servirán para explicar los cambios en la imagen de la mujer «diferente».
