Rebeca Sanmartín Bastida

Professor of Spanish Literature at the Complutense University of Madrid, Sanmartín focuses her research on the performativity of literature in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and on contemporary medievalism. Sanmartín combines these subjects with studies on women 's medieval mysticism. She has already directed three research projects on this topic and is presently directing the fourth. Sanmartín has worked for several years at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (1996-2004) and the University of Manchester (2001-2003) and has been a Visiting Professor/ Scholar at Queen Mary University, London (2008), Nottingham (2014), Trento (2016), Nova Lisboa (2020), Sorbonne (2022) and Harvard (2024). Her last book is Staging Authority: Spanish Visionary Women and Images (1450-1550) (Edizioni dell'Orso, 2023).
